Hello,

I've collected cores from East-African floodplains, but due to the combination of high clay content and wet-dry cracking, it was impossible to obtain the floodplain sediment in a known volume. Instead, these samples were collected using monoliths (without managing to completely fill them, thus unknown volume) or by directly sampling out of pits. We have calculated the Excess 210-Pb activity using alpha counting but to convert the activities to age and SARs the CRS model needs the dry bulk density. Is there a way to calculate age and SARs without the dry bulk density? Or is there a way to estimate dry bulk density from loose floodplain material?

Regards,

Maarten
