I know that the Kjeldahl method is the accepted standard when it comes to carcass analysis in most studies. I do not have access to an apparatus to carry this out and I am hoping someone can suggest an alternative method. The project seeks to determine differences in protein assimilation.
Would a Bradford or BCA assay be acceptable?
If you do not use the Keldall method, it is better to use the Biuret method for protein quantification in sample solutions (BSA).

I also think you can use the Biuret method, even Lowry method. However, I also think that it is crucial that the sample dissolves evenly during sample preparation. You don't want to take some of the sample solution that just has less proteins (e.g. bad protein solubility where the protein precipitates and you'd take sample above this part). It's just a small suggestion.

I feel Kjeldahl method would be more appropriate. If you don't have instruments, with some glassware and heating mantle you can set-up the apparatus. You need not have sophisticated instrument of combustion chamber as long as you take up all precautionary measures for sample digestion. Other methods like Biuret or Lowery will give misleading results since these would require several folds sample dilution. Bradford reagent also gives non-specific readings.
