AChE immunostaining helps highlight striatal striosomes due to their poor staining compared to matrix. When comparing acute slices and this type of staining, I can't help but to feel like the pattern of the fibers projecting to (or passing along) the striatum look very similar to the poorly AChE-immunostained striatal patches. Is there a correspondence? I mean, are fibers an essential part of the striosomes, or are they unrelated? As an alternative to natural landmarks inunstainded acute slices, are there suitable transgenic mice expressing fluorescent markers that do highlight striosomes?

Thanks
