I'm interested to know if there have been any quantitative or semi-quantitative studies of geological diversity (complexity) between different countries? For example, New Zealand, Japan, Taiwan are often noted for their geological diversity whereas large areas of Australia and the USA exhibit lesser diversity.

Geological setting, tectonic history, and the obvious difference in the size of these countries is obvious. However, I've yet to find a study that compares and contrasts the scale at which variation in geology occurs.

Any, recommend studies would be greatly appreciated.
