Thinking about online and MOOC-type certificates for R programming and data analysis, are there any that are recognized and respected by potential graduate schools and employers?
I guess if people can recommend those for SAS or Python, that would be useful as well.

For your applications to graduate schools and employers, prepare a portfolio of work that you have done - not so much the code, but a description of projects and their outcome. If what you have done was in a team, the better. In this case clarify what your role was.
The competency to work self-directed and study independently is highly regarded by potential employers. It's easier to hone your code-crafting skills than to improve personal and social competencies, so show what you have got..

There's the PSTAT offered by the American Statistical Assoc. Several Certificates offered by the American Society for Quality and a certification (I've forgotten the Name) offered by INFORMS. Best, David
