I would like to know that are there any interesting recent research areas which combine data science with control theory? If there are, which are they?
C3 Energy data scientists bring knowledge from extensive research in computer science and engineering fields ranging from large-scale data mining to control theory
Lots of control efforts have used techniques from data science and machine learning. Neural networks have been used extensively to design controllers, and genetic algorithms have been used to tune control laws with a predefined structure, such as PID.
Recently, clustering techniques have been used to discretize nonlinear dynamical systems for control (http://arxiv.org/abs/1602.05416).
Genetic programming has also been used to control nonlinear systems (i.e., turbulent fluid systems) by identifying the structure and parameters of effective control laws.
