Are there any naturally occurring fungi or bacteria that could do the same job?
I have a healthy Coprinopsis atramentaria growing in my compost heap, so I am just about to start an experiment to see if I can answer my own question by seeding the buckets for our humanure system with spores and mycelium from it.
Ah - Coprinopsis atramentaria seeding does work to dramatically reduce the "slopping" from free urine, but the project needs more work, as my beloved wife did not appreciate the change in aroma! It probably needs a Streptomyces adding to improve the aroma with geosmin? Hey this could become a commercial product if it works on both portability and pong!
