I'm asking for experts who's interested in neuroscience, philosophy of mind, philosophy of religion, biophysics or artificial intelligence systems and computation or related fields. Thank you!
I'm not an expert in those fields, but here's my take: 'Consciousness' is basically being aware of what's going on around you and inside you. 'Understanding' is more about getting the hang of concepts or figuring things out. And 'Feeling'? That's all about emotions or sensations you experience. They're linked, but they're not the same thing.
Hsin-Yuan Chen Thank you for your answer ! Do you think these are chained results of each other? If so, which one comes first? And do you think these can be considered separately for an entity? That is, are there any entities where one of these occurs and the other does not?
They're related but can exist independently. Consciousness is likely the baseline, required for understanding or feeling. Some entities may possess one trait without the others.
While AI can mimic aspects of understanding and feeling through algorithms, it lacks true human-like consciousness. Its abilities are rooted in programming and data, not genuine self-awareness. The prospect of AI gaining advanced traits like 'theory of mind' remains a subject of ongoing debate and research.
The understanding and feeling comes inside by the presence of stimuli whereas consciousness is the base line of brain functions, and control the feeling.
Resulting all activities is governed by consciousness i.e. brain functions.
there are differences between consciousness, understanding and feeling ; Because sensation is related to the senses, and understanding is related to mental understanding, while awareness includes most of what was mentioned.
Thank you.. Now how can we seperate them when it comes to artificial intelligence robots? They can mimic expression and gestures, can we say that they're feeling? When they can answer our questions way smarter than an ordinary person, can we say that they understand? And a harder questions comes, are they aware of sth ? Some claim that, some claim that's impossible. The point is on the definitions I think. That's why I wonder the definitions. Thanks for your answer Dr Arize.
