Thank you. Tuber and root crops (sweet poato, cassava) may and are effectively occasionally cultivated in allic soils but yields are rather aleatory in a very large range.
that is a very general question, especially without specification of climatic zone, purpose etc. Forages for grazing or cut and carry might be a good option.
Allic soils are present under tropical ustic and udic moisture regimes, iso- and isohyperthermic temperature regimes and also under temperate climates. In Burundi (isothermic) highlands, they are mainly used as natural pastures which represent roughly 1/3 of the country. Also some tea plantations.
most of the tropical plantation crops like Rubber, pineapple, cocco, fruit crops are possible under ios thermic temperature and ustic/udic moisture regimes.
@ P. Candran. Ok for the thermic and moisture regimes. But do you have experience or references under so acid and Al-rich soil conditions (original question)?
I agree with your opinion on tuber crops. In acidic soils of northeast India, most cereal crops (particularly maize) suffer heavily due to soil acidity; yet tuber crops (ginger & turmeric) are growing quite satisfactorily.
