I have my Ph D student work on project: Physiological and phytochemical studies of grafted cucumber on several rootstock ?
here were checked the following:
Plant vegetative growth behavior
The nutritional value of fruit
and we are going to do the finger print in the grafted plants
our first full results share that there are changed in physical and chemical characteristics in grafted plants, and genetically we ar going to check it.
I have no experience on cucumber , but while working on fruit crops, we have distinctively observed that changing rootstock changes the whole behaviour of scion , including the time of fruit maturity.
Then , it could be a possibility of using duplicate accessions of rootstocks , means rootsocks used in the study didnt differ much . In germplasm accessions , it is common problem , a rootstock/scion collected by different agencies , give different names of accessions , while source is same.

The practice of grafting, which combines a scion and a root stock to form a new plant with a blend of characteristics, is a technique known from ancient times. It has been used historically to change variety, enhance vigor, or increase tolerance to soil problems (drought, salinity, soil borne diseases), regulation of flowering, fruit maturity, governing plant canopy for dwarfness, even nutritional value can also be improved. I feel there is need to enhance basic knowledge through fundamental researches. Best wishes to Alaaeldin for his endeavour in this area.
