The American Psychiatric Association (APA, 2013) included ‘Internet Gaming Disorder’ (IGD) in Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM-5 ) in the category of ‘Non-Substance-Related Disorders’. According to this section, an individual is diagnosed as having IGD if there is fulfilment of five (or more) of the NINE criteria (preoccupation, tolerance, withdrawal, persistence, escape, problems, deception, displacement, and conflict) during 12 months.
Are the NINE criterion of ‘Internet Gaming Disorder’ (IGD) in DSM-5 appropriate to diagnose‘Internet USE Disorder’?

"In the fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), Internet Gaming Disorder is identified in Section III as a condition warranting more clinical research and experience before it might be considered for inclusion in the main book as a formal disorder."

The term Internet use disorder is not in DSM 5.

Thank you for sharing. I am curious to find out what controls were or would be in place to diagnose for IGD alone based on the NINE criterion as I observe that the same could apply to other forms of disorder.
