Arts are linked to technological development. Acting techniques, stage design, music, dance changed and evolved thanks to science and technology (polleys, electricity, the idea of the third dimension...)
Science also changed and developed thanks to the arts, lets take Ramon y Cajal's drawings of the human brain or Leonardo DaVinci's drawings of human body, let's take the "De Humanis Corporis Fabrica" by Vesalio which is the first full study of the human body and it's from 1543.
A visual artist who works between arts and science is Rafael Lozano-Hemmer http://www.lozano-hemmer.com/pulse_room.php
The arts have always used all current tools to make art. Take, for instance, the birth of photography - this became an art, was absorbed by the arts both as a tool and in parallel to traditional arts. The arts have absorbed DVD and video, they absorb, as does architecture, which at its most creative is an art in itself, structural engineering and all the advances in modern materials. Thus the arts advance with the times as we all do.
