Perfectionism - low self-esteem - insecure attachment - jealosy.... I imagine it's a complex relationship. Interesting though.

I thought that this was an interesting question, and tended to agree with your positive relationship between perfectionistic concerns and jealousy but maybe not regarding a relationship with a partner, although I do understand what you mean.

The person who is quoted is Parul Sehgal (a literary critic) 2013. My Jealousy: A Battle with Perfectionism. She has also - I think - written 'An Ode to Envy'.

I looked at the other piece mentioned 'The Alarming New Research on Perfectionism, by Melissa Dahl' but jealousy was not mentioned.

I think that if a person who is a perfectionist is aware of an achievement by another, but is aware that he or she cannot achieve this to the same level, this gives rise to the feelings of jealousy. I'm not so sure about the partner section of your hypothesis.

Jealousy (as well as perfectionism) will be assessed via self-reports. I want to put my focus on jealousy in romantic relationships in specific. But also other forms of jealousy could make a lot of sense, as Mary Wilson pointed out above.

Research has shown that both jealousy (there is a subscale named "anxious jealousy") and perfectionism (i.e., perfectionistic concerns) are related to anxiety. Persons with high anxious jealousy are constantly worried they might lose their partner to someone else (Buunk 1997). Persons with high perfectionistic concerns are typically worried to make mistakes and are concerned that people will like them less if they make mistakes (Frost et al. 1990). Most research on perfectionism is based on performance in the work context but I'd like to find out if perfectionism is also prominent in romantic relationships. My hypothesis is that persons with perfectionistic concerns are also afraid of making mistakes or having specific flaws in their relationships and are worried that those mistakes/flaws would make their partner lose interest in them. So the fear not to be liked by other people because of their mistakes or flaws might also appear in the fear to lose their partner because of their mistakes/flaws.

In a next step I'd like to find out if anxiety in general could explain the relationship between jealousy and perfectionism as both constructs correlate with anxiety.

The perfectionist person tends to be possessive and controlling.

The history of the zeal is ancestral and has a foundation of genetic preservation.

The culture ended up modeling that behavior on a human scale.

There are many biological, psychological and social factors that converge in this phenomenon of zeal.

They still require multidisciplinary studies that are not exhausted to this day.

Greetings with all due respect to the fact that most of the participants in these answers are ladies. Women have much more tenderness and authority to discuss this complicated issue.

For only having maternal zeal, that makes them significantly superior to us.

We must listen to them with respect and a lot of attention.
