I am a big fan of Papers2 as a PDF repository/browser and would like to start using it as a reference manager as well. I understand that I can import/export my reference/paper library between the 2 programmes and this is what I have been doing in the past. Researching with Papers, referencing with Endnote. But what I really want to know is, if I use Papers2's new CWYW function for referencing my manuscripts (it works very well by the way) will collaborators (mostly working on Windows, not Mac) be able to use Endnote with the manuscript after I have used Papers with it?
If not, has anyone managed to figure out any way round it?
I use Papers2 and also a big fan. I've never used the CWYW function in Papers2 but you can save references in a EndNote-compatible format to import references to EndNote. You would need to test it on a computer which has EndNote but doesn't have Papers2. If it doesn't work, you'll need to import your library from Papers2 to EndNote and then reference your sources. Otherwise contact the Paper2 technical help team; they are very friendly and helpful.
I'm struggling with the same thing. I entered the references in Papers2 but now my colleague needs to work on the manuscript in Endnote. I can't find a workaround, start to believe that there is none and I have to redo it all in Endnote. Happy if someone can prove me wrong...
No, not yet. But then I haven't tried again on this for some time. I wonder if the new version of Papers, papers 3, is compatible. Does anyone have Papers 3?
I'll be so so so much easier if these guys make an agreement! I figure that if Papers had a way to add "temporary citations" in the way EndNote recignises them then endnote would be able to format them. I know that by "copy as" Endnote temporary citations and then paste it/them into your word document, endnote will then be able to format them. However, this is manual input an if you have 100 citations done with papers one may have to do if all over again.
Hope someone comes up with the solution!
You can export a library from Endnote in XML format (don't use "save as" - the Export function is a separate item in the same menu. Then, you can open it in Papers2. I have not tried the opposite direction, but the menu items are all there. In Papers2, go to File - Export - Endnote XML library.

I have used Papers2 for some time, but unfortunately the citation function is not as great as it initially appears (for me, the final output of references were of an inconsistent format and led to a painful evening of manual corrections). Moving the Papers library to Dropbox is fraught with problems of lost files and Papers2 specifically recommends against this. A helpful solution is to create a Dropbox folder from which papers will automatically import all saved pdfs (allowing you to save papers from work, etc), and then keep your Papers library on a specified computer hard drive (i.e. home). The papers library can be moved to whatever folder you choose (http://support.mekentosj.com/kb/how-to/move-your-library-to-a-different-location-or-new-mac) and Endnote can then import everything from this folder for use with citations. This takes about ten minutes of fiddling around to set up, but does keep everything in sync and avoids the risk of lost papers and citations when you are about to submit something.

Hi everybody, I am using Papers3 on Mac,a nd need to import a library from RefWorks. I exported an .xml file, but no idea how to import it into papers3 - the Import button the tutorials show is simply not ther ein my verison of the porgramme... Any tips highly welcome!
