Journals have been with us for hundreds of years
Journals often have a limited readership and biased editorial policy.
Many times, methodology cannot actually be verified fully by editors.
Plagiarism and theft of ideas cannot really be controlled adequately
Ethics approval has become mind-numbingly obstructive and much of research is just incremental, rather than landmark.
A lot of money is being used in a futile, uncontrolled way, in a time of great human suffering, where some of this money could be better spent
In this world of rapid and global communication and global inter-connectedness, should we not publish on the web, through a globally acceptable vetting process and also let the authors respond directly to questions [ or through an impartial intermediary]?
Can we not re-think our publishing strategy?
Ideas please....
