With the increase in research on the production of biofuel like bioethanol as potential replacement of gasoline whose combustion results to the release of green house gases. Will biofuels production minimize global warming?
biofuels somehow helps in minimizing the global warming but in a long term it can not mitigate the global warming completely because of many factors from the feedstocks to biofuels production. Also we cant replace the fossil fuel with biofuels. Research on biofuels production is just adding numbers of paper in the list nothing breakthrough coming out.
The energy stored in biofuel is the solar energy converted by plants into chemical energy. Photosynthesis is basically the reversed reaction to combustion
CO2 + H2O = Biomass + O2.
Unfortunately, the efficiency of the natural photosynthesis is very low. Plants use less than 1% of solar energy to produce biomass. Therefore, we can't rely upon biofuel as a source of energy. The possible solution is an artificial photosynthesis.
