Since D. marginatus reported as a polymorphic tick species (Estrada-Peña A, Estrada-Peña R. 1991. Notes on Dermacentor ticks: redescription of D. marginatus with the synonymies of D. niveus and D. daghestanicus (Acari: Ixodidae). Journal of Medical Entomology 28:1-15.)
The traditional keys are impractical for this species.
it is better to keep them as Dermacentor spp because they exhibit a big variation of ornates and colors however you can look for D. variabilis nymph or D. andersoni and D. occidentalis adults which are lighter usually (these latter are not common to Asia!)
