There are a variety of arterial Windkessel models used to describe pressure and flow in arteries using 2-4 elements.  I am concerned with the formulation of the 4 element model where the parameters are Rc - characteristic resistance, L - Inertance, C - total vascular compliance, and Rp - peripheral resistance.  There is some ambiguity in the literature as to whether the Rc and L should be placed in parallel or series.

http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s11517-008-0359-2 lays out several models but puts Rc & L in parallel.

http://circres.ahajournals.org/content/16/2/121.short lays out the 4 element model with the Rc & L in series.

Physiologically what makes sense?
