Hydraulic conductivity of a vadoze zone is directly contribute by the pore spaces. Further, this will depend on the pore diameter and the fractures availability. A less bulky soil will have higher hydraulic conductivity than a dense soil.
You should use measured hydraulic conductivity (ks). If there is no any measured data, you can use pedotransfer function to estimate ks. There are many pedotransfer functions to estimate ks. Please have a look at following reference:
