Thanks for your reply.  I am pleased to see confirmation in your article, that the atmospheric dust has an influence on the monsoon.  Would you and your article authors agree that "Pakistan-Arabia Dust Cloud" could be a good name for what we are all are observing?    

Attached is the Dust Cloud plus the monsoon clouds for today, August 25, 2014,  You can see where the Dust Cloud lives, the monsoon is chased away.  Also note the clouds that are forming from the Pseudomonas bacteria being produced by their plant hosts, like the SW coast of India.

This comment is my take on the naming.  What we observed is that this dust layer is not just restricted to Arabia and Pakistan (using our study), but over a larger area including North-East Africa... (as also shown by the NRL model output you uploaded).  That's why we call it the North Africa and West Asian dust.  This is definitely an area requiring more studies in the future.

I do not know which atmospheric dust imaging you are using to map the extent or degree (i.e. micrograms per cubic meter) of the Dust Clouds, but if we agree to use the NTL/Monterey Aerosol page with their NAAPS images, then we can clearly see that the two clouds are separate because of their countries of origin, at http://www.nrlmry.navy.mil/aerosol/index_shortcuts.html

I am proposing that we name the “Pakistan-Arabia” Dust Cloud as such, because those are the two areas where that cloud originates, and the “North African” Dust Cloud for that part of the world.

If we think of the earth is a living body, and there is fungal skin infection, but at least originating at two separate loci. And there is very little overlap between the two Dust Clouds, as they live and occupy their own separate spaces.

Since both of these Dust Clouds are man-made, by giving them names based on their countries of origin, then those countries could take ownership in doing something to mitigate their impacts, for example.

Also what I am suggesting is that the two separate Dust Clouds have completely separate actions on the monsoon moisture, and have an immediate minute-by-minute impact on the rainfall in the area wherever each Dust Cloud is located, in addition to the lag-time effect that I read in the abstract of your paper.

In the future, we will probably name the North African Dust Cloud as a “family” of Dust Clouds, and then separate that larger family into four or five individually named Dust Clouds based on their countries of origin.

So for the time being, can we agree that there are at least two separate Dust Clouds, and we could provisionally name them the "Pakistan-Arabia" Dust Cloud and the "North Africa" Dust Cloud? I have attached the two Dust Cloud images for today.

I can talk only based on the work i have done or am aware of.  We have not tried to look in to the different dust sources and their impact on rainfall.  However,  It will be quite interesting to study different dust sources separated geographically and study their impacts.  Also, a proposition that countries take responsibility for their impacts could be too political.  I do not want to get in to this.  But from a science point of view, this will be quite interesting to look at.

Thank you for your reply, and thank you for the "doctor" but I have no degrees, just a naturalist studying different aspects about native plants and their effect on the weather. So can we agree on the name the "Pakistan-Arabia" Dust Cloud as one of the Dust Cloud, and to name the "North Africa" Dust Cloud provisionally, with the assumption that it will probably be subdivided into at least three or four individual Dust Clouds, and that the "North Africa" group will probably end up as the family name?

I feel that we are like doctors back in the 1800s, giving names to different diseases so we can talk about them using a common language? To my way of thinking, the Dust Clouds are man-made diseases of the planet, and as weather-doctors viewing the symptoms, we should tell people if there could be a possible cure, because the Dust Clouds make billions of people suffer each year.

So how does the Monterey NAAPS Dust Cloud images compare to whatever dust imaging you have been using?  Can you attach one of your images?  Today, August 28, 2014 is the current NAAPS attached

Thanks for your email.  So what do you or any of the three Question Followers, think of the provisional names, the "Pakistan-Arabia" Dust Cloud and the "North African"family of  Dust Clouds?

Starting a few days ago, (today is September 8, 2014) the Dust Cloud has formed a wall in NW India, which blocks and stalls the monsoon moisture, and is causing floods as the "Wall" "Pakistan-Arabia Dust Cloud" pattern predicts, and you can read about the floods in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_Pakistan_-_India_floods

This week in October, we can observe the interaction between the Dust Cloud and the cyclone Hudhud with its track predicted to enter central India, but the images are suggesting that the Dust Cloud might trap and stall the cyclone, causing floods at the cyclone-Dust Cloud interface.   What could make matters worse, is if the Dust Cloud traps or stalls the cyclone over land, and it is fed additional moisture from the East.

Today, October 10, Hudhud is turning to the east, and I am posting my predicted storm track, which is very different than the other computer storm tracks, when I am adding the effect of the Dust Cloud plus the hot ocean water around Bangladesh, may cause Hudhud to run along the India coastline and hit Bangladesh full force?

Update of Hudhud Oct. 12--the cyclone eye did not move to the north or east, but many of the rain clouds did, when the Dust Cloud formed a wall and pocket and stalled the cyclone from moving westward. The leading edge of the Dust Cloud is acting like a cheese grater, shaving off the energy of the cyclone. Since the leading edge of the Dust Cloud is holding its ground against the cyclone, western India will probably not see much rainfall, wherever the Dust Cloud persists.
