I would like to import (through collaboration with an American institute) a plasmid. I work in an institute located in Leipzig, Germany and we would like to get a plasmid from an American institute.
Does anyone knows what are the permits we must fill up or how difficult it is to get the plasmid from the States?
I'd be gratefull if anyone can help me with this.

You would better consult Safety Office or biological safety officier in your institute in Leipzig. Typically, your american colleagues should fill a DNA transfer form on their side, get an approval from their Safety Office, and send you the plasmid together with this approved form. Once the plasmid is delivered to you, you should inform your institutional biosafety officier about acquisition of DNA material from foreign lab. You might fill a DNA purchase (or registration) form on your side, or include this purchase in the list of acquired DNA material during lab audit, it varies from institute to institute.
