We are conducting a study of Scandinavian parents behaviour towards organic baby food using the TPB framework. We have included both indirect and direct measures in the study but have some questions regarding the recoding of the variables.

1) How do we know which of the scales we are supposed to convert into bipolar (-3 to +3 scales)? In the survey, all questions are measured on a 1-7 scale with the following extreme points:

a. Behavioural beliefs: Extremely unlikely/Extremely likely (Example of question with this scale: “If I buy an organic baby food product, I feel that I am buying a product with high quality”)

b. Behavioural evaluations: Extremely undesirable/Extremely desirable (Example question with this scale: “Buying a product with good taste is…”)

c. Normative beliefs: Extremely negative/Extremely positive (Example of question with this scale: “My family would be … to me buying organic baby food”)

d. Motivation to comply: Extremely low degree/Extremely high degree (Example of question with this scale: “My family’s approval of me buying organic baby food matters to me”

e. Control beliefs: Extremely unlikely/Extremely likely (Example of question with this scale: Organic baby food is available in the stores where I shop”)

f. Control belief power: Less likely/More likely (Example of question with this scale: “When organic baby food is available in the stores I shop, I am … to buy it”
