I need help on getting a research topic for my PhD dissertation, in the fields of seismics and earthquake geophysics. I will also appreciate suggestions in the field of hydrogeology.
Thank you so much Sir Mostafa F. Mostafa , I see you are a hydrogeologist as well, please can you help me with a good PhD topic in hydrogeology too? With a case study in Canada, or Japan. 🙏
We have a problem with small earthquakes caused by a man-made lake (probably) in the Churchill area of Manitoba, Canada.
There were no earthquakes before, but as soon as the artificial lake (called Stephen's Lake) was constructed for hydroelectric development, we started getting many small earthquakes up to about magnitude 4. Those working for Hydro will tell you that something else is causing the quakes.
Thank you so much Sir Michael Issigonis . Amazing research food for thought and case study as I was considering situating my research in Canada. Sir i just wish to inquire, is there already ongoing research linking the small earthquakes in Manitoba to the creation of Stephen‘s lake?
I tried to start research on this topic and asked Hydro for information , but my university intervened saying Hydro (which donates money for scholarships at this university) should be left alone in case the information might point to negligence during construction of the artificial lake. I think there are strong faults under the lake that will be activated if the weight of the water is applied on them.
Seismology Canada, the government people in charge of monitoring earthquakes have done a great job of keeping earthquake data.
The native people of Canada have been living in these areas for thousands of years. They will know if the earthquakes are new or not.

You have gotten a very beatiful research topic for your PhD dissertation, in the fields of seismics and earthquake geophysics from Prof. Michael Issigonis - I would choose that... This topic gives you a wide research possibilities for you.
The earthquakea forecasting is a delicate matter... You may entry in political problems. Maybe after such a choose, you will become a clothing seller too.
I have several topics that I checked in the course of my main work, but did not complete it because I was alone and I did not have enough hands.
Topic 1, a fish was found that is suitable for predicting an earthquake and in the Technion (Haifa) the possibility of video processing the position of a group of fish in an aquarium was tested in order to determine the direction to the epicenter half an hour before the earthquake.
I have already used them during testing. They predict earthquakes. But for complete work, it is necessary to be able to register these clouds from space as well. Without this, the topic cannot be considered fully completed. This is a serious volume, I know that one woman, a geophysicist in Russia, was not allowed to defend herself on this topic.
But the topic is interesting and big.
