I am trying to standardize my QCM crystal coating. During the coating, I spread 10 uL of my sample on the crystal by pipetting. I have a very large variation from crystal to crystal and I suspect that spreading step is error-prone.
I think spraying the sample might be a good solution, but I am open to other solutions.
Any suggestions to standardize my coating?
Spraying will give you a somewhat consistent coating if you can exactly repeat the spray every time but it will be difficult. I'd suggest an air brush if you choose that method.
I think you will get more consistent results from spinning. If you need to get more sample on the QCM and the viscosity of the solution is low, you may need to coat the QCM more than once. Spin coating will provide consistent results as long as the viscosity of the fluid and spin speed stays the same.
Thank you for the suggestion. Spin coating was a considerable option but since I am working with a toxic and expensive molecule, I could not risk the spilling of the solution from the edges. Air brush is a viable and low cost solution. I will try as soon as I get it.
