It is known that sodium butyrate improves rumen development (rumen papillae), then increasing animals feed efficiency (due to an improved absoprtion of nutrients through the rumen wall).

This is the first step to increase productivity, either in terms of milk yield and/or feed efficiency (output/input).

However, is there any study assessing the effect of feeding young calves/heifers with sodium butyrate on their future milk production (either milk yield and/or efficiency)? In case yes, could you please provide with them?

Thank you very much,

Best regards.
