Is this at neuromuscular junction or CNS. My favourite and ultimate method for functional analysis is electrophysiology. If you cant do it yourself, get in touch someone else who will do it for you. You may find it very rewarding.

Thanks. Of course electrophysiology would be the best, but I am trying to better characterize the cholinergic abnormal activity before I can guide electrophysiologists where and what to record.

This is why I asked specifically on assays and kits. Are you familiar with such? Also, can you recommend on a good review on the cholinergic system in the brain and the cholinergic receptors subunits distribution in the mouse brain?

I see. Sounds like a good plan. I am not really familiar with cholinergic assays and kits, but one lab comes to my mind is Henry A. Lester's group. If you check, you may find that they have a repetoire of publications that may benefit you.
