From the perspective of a practicing professional, you may want to factor in adaptable strategy as a supplement to short term and long term investments. My clients generally seek a long term strategy that targets a relative ROR benchmarked to various indexes, with flexibility to adapt to changes in market conditions. I use adaptive strategic portfolio management processes. They do not inherently ask for short term and long term investments. In fixed income, it is more of a relationship to expected interest rate changes. For institutional clients, it is based on liquidity needs vs long term ROR targets benchmarked.

Just a comment- questionnaires may measure intention or a self-assesment based on a desired perception and may differ substantially from actual actions taken and emotional fortitude at time of decision making, which typically involves some stress that did not exist at the time of completing the questionnaire.
