Someone reported the HPV L1 protein is glycosylated but others reported no glycosylation.
Is the glycosylation important for the vaccine efficacy? E. coli seem can easily produce VLP. Then why GSK and Merck use eukaryotic cell to produce the vaccine?

Linhui: A minority of HPV L1 protein is glycosylated with high mannose form, which resides in the ER rather than in the nuclei. As to the use of eukaryotic cells for vaccine production, it may be for the proper folding and/or post-translational modification other than glycosylation.
