I seem to recall that a ArcGIS toolbox was available somewhere on the WEB that provided the facility to process a DEM in order to get different types of rilief visualizations (e.g., PCA of hillshades). Unfortunately, I can't remember where I got that from. Does anyone has any suggestion?
Do you mean the Local Relief Model (LRM) from David Novák or the Relief Visualization Toolbox (RVT) from Zakšek et al, 2014?

@James: thank you for your reply, and for pointing those material out. I have tried RVT tool under a virtual machine on my iMac, but it runs out of memeory very fast :-(
Yet, I recall having found a toolbox for ArcGIS providing almost all the facilities provided by RVT. But I cant remember where I found it.
