Alcoholic-alkaline treatment or Aqueous-alkaline treatment?

I am working on the alkaline treatment of natural fibers as a part of my research project. Natural fibers are usually treated by the alkali solution before surface grafting. Can anyone compare fiber treatment by means of alcoholic-alkaline solution and aqueous-alkaline solution?

Usually is employed aqueous alkaline solution, since the boiling point of the water is higher than those of the alcohol. Furthermore, the water is cheaper than alcohol.
