George Floyd's case shocked the world. Physical restraint is a method used by the police but also in the management of psychiatric patients who pose a danger to themselves or others. In your opinion, should there be more accurate training for those who might be forced to carry out this type of maneuver?

International guidelines exist for psychiatry. On the contrary, as far as the police are concerned, the trainings are different. Perhaps even this training should be standardized so as not to cause damage to those who are "in custody".
The police already are trained not to use this form of restraint because it is dangerous. However, there needs to be more done on both sides to come to some sort of civility with each other instead of fighting each other. Also in restraint methods for psychiatry, harm is not allowed from staff to clients. Medications are used after physical control happens.
Absolutely. There are many types of "strangulation" . The neck area has nothing to protect it's vessels and structures. Lack of blood flow to the brain y compressing vessels or lack of the ability to breathe due to compression of the airway can lead to death very quickly. There can be no external visible signs and the person can still till die from these type of physical restraints. This is often brouht up in domestic violence casees. Improving guidelines for strangulation is never ending. The problem was a lack of training of the policemen to deal with high stress situations. Educators and authorities know all to certain, that prejudices, personal obsessions and violent inclinations can be activated in a policeman. There was clearly a lack of selection bias towards a primitive racist attitude. Amrican elect their functinaries in the justice and policing system, so it is a direct reflection of the culture.
Yes, indeed..doing restraints is not just merely securing and holding the patient for "your' own safety but we also need to learn that restraining a patient or a person entails safety on both party. We restraint patient safely and only if there is an impose danger to the staff and to the patient. Therefore, proper way of restraining the patient must be imposed and must be handled by people trained to do so. Remember, we are already violating the person's autonomy in such manner that somehow we need to give at least respect to the person by being humane when dealing with them.
Just as in medicine, a risk-benefit balance must also be made in life. Unfortunately, it is undeniable that in some cases both the police and psychiatric operators must use immobilization techniques to solve dangerous situations for the community. Such situations should be better coded to avoid abuse of power ... and lead to side effects such as the one highlighted in the application.
