Theorizing about language and the extant metaliguistic reserviore of information defining what language is and how it develops owe much to the endeavours of Chomsky. However, it seems that language as a complex system defies description. On the face of it, we seem to be walking in a dark room looking for a dark cat which may not be there at all. Consequently, the next moves in the field are expected from scholars like Smolensky who are trying to fathom out the realities of language by adopting a connectionist, neobehavioristic stance. The sun of linguistics may shine from connectionism in the near future.
Reza, thanks for your response. I also share the view that linguists should move away from abstract notions and move towards realities about human languages. Our actual language use can dictate our theoretical orientation.
