normally the compounds are separated by chromatographic means and perhaps checked for their purity and some time later (i.e. some days later oder even some months later) the bioassay is performed. In order to exclude any instability of the isolated compounds in solution (e.g. degradation) you should generally remove the mobile phase, e.g. by evaporation, and store your compounds in a closed vial in the fridge.
Just immediately before starting the bioassay the test compounds should be resolved in a suitable medium (which does not interact with your assay system).
Kind regards and much luck for your studies, Klaus Peter Latté
even in lipophilic solutions changes might occur (degradation, chemical rearrangement) so I advice to remove the mobile phase in all cases otherwise the biological activity of the compounds might change.
