My name is Jay and I am a BS in Biochemistry at North Texas. I just began an advanced X-Ray Analysis course with minimal XRD experience.
I need help coming up with a very doable and fun independent project for extra credit. It can be computation or experimental. Any ideas would be very much appreciated. :)
You can use X-ray diffraction to identify and characterize materials qualitatively and quantitatively. Cubic structure is the simplest crystal system. No peaks overlapping, high symmetry, ...etc, so you will find no problem working on such a system. Rietveld refinement, W-H plot and etc, can be used to find the microstructural properties of a material. Therefore, you need a good software to perform such analysis (HSP and Topas packages may be the best). Instrumental broadening correction and step scan mode must also taking into consideration.
