Cyano-acrylate based adhesives will bond metal to metal well. However, while their tensile strength is high they exhibit poor shear strength characteristics. I have done tensile testing with aluminum discs about 1 sq cm in area and during a pull tests they fail at values well over 5 kg of force. Sanding the surfaces with fine grit sandpaper (325 grit) and wiping it afterwards with isopropyl alcohol are essential preparation steps prior to applying the adhesive.
Thanks Ahmed Saadoon i'll give Cyanacrylate a go. As I mentioned its basically to fit the clock into the crank recess as a gift to my manager who is leaving the business after nearly 42 years.
