Addition of iodine on ethylene double bond: Reaction in organic solvents like methylene chloride, hexane or toluene

Does someone performed and experiment to introduce ethylene gas in iodine dissolved in nonpolar or slightly polar organic solvents like hexane, toluene, methylene chloride and etc. at room temperature and thus observed reaction of iodine addition on the double bond? If so, how much time did this reaction consumed in order to visually observe that it is really occurring?
