Because activated charcoal is very efficient in absorption, it has the ability of binding with any substance including minerals, vitamins etc in food. Other substances such as alcohol, some metals, electrolytes, acids and alkalis are not absorbed Because of their polarity. In this case, there might be a reason why activated charcoal fails to absorp nuitrents but phenolics and metabolites. I think some may be absorbed but not in excess.
