Dear Colleagues, I have single phase inverter connects photovoltaic array of rating 10 kW with the grid at 220 V/50 Hz. I need to design the filter inductor that couples the inverter with the grid. The switching frequency of the inverter is 10 kHz. Can anyone advise me about the best core material and the design procedure or any reference in that issue? Thank you very much.
The core material selection mainly depends on the inductor weight, volume, and loss.
For example, to improve the power density of the inverter system, the amorphous core is a better choice. For higher efficiency of the inverter system, the ferrite core is the suitable selection.
In your cases, the fundamental current is 45.45Arms, and the switching frequency is 10 kHz, the amorphous core is the best solution in my experience. By the way, the design procedure includes: filter topology, inductance and capacitance required to meet the THD,core and wire material selection, core size determination (better to use FEM simulation), experiment verification.

A good magnetic core material is ferrite.
To calculate the inductance, you can decide the maximum ripple current in the inductor and then calculate the inductance at point where you get the maximum volt-seconds in the inductor by using the simple equation of a buck DC/DC converter.

In addition to the above recommendations I can offer Sendust material which has good performance cost ratio. There are usually two options for the filter topology LC and. LCL filter approach. You should be carefull with filter resonant freq especially in LCL case. That might require additional damping. That is also a good practice to have almost order of magnitude difference between your grid your filter cutoff your control frequency.

I know it is for a PV grid inverter.
I just said use the inductor ripple current equation of a buck DC/DC at a particular operating point of the inverter.
I have a MATLAB Code that helps you to design LC filters based on Line to Line voltage, line frequency, wattage of the system and switching frequency.
Please change the parameters to suit your system.
