Hi all,

Hope everyone is doing great!

Just a quick question, when I have 2 parts modelled in SHELL element with shell offset in the section manager set to 'middle surface', at the location where they connect, for example, a beam is connecting into a column forming a T-joint, do you guys normally leave a small gap (i.e. half the wall thickness of the column) to account for the actual dimension of the column or leave no gap (i.e. connecting centre-to-centre)?

After all, does it even matter or make any difference in leaving a small gap to account for the fact that the shell model is defined at the middle surface instead of the external surface? I know there will be a small influence on the loading eccentricity but does it necessary? This probably depends on the scale of the model, doesn't it?

Many thanks,

Heng
