You know wikipedia, which is the most successful open wiki representing human knowledge. As a scientist, as far as I know, there are a few ways to get to know a specific field, either reading textbooks, monographs or reviews. However, it's not easy to access related material reading a book. Web page based reviews are much better at providing links to related literature, but still quite single-minded. Done is done. That's great as a historical record of the progress of a specific topic at a time, but not so much as a good way to represent the boundary of human knowledge as we push beyond it. Lay people and fresh graduates may be quite avid to contribute their thinking but hindered by the elusive literature. So I wonder if there is a need for a wiki project that documents all the scientific literature so people can easily familiarize themselves with the field and related techniques and what's needed next? Or does such a project exist already?
