I recently started rotating in a lab that works with worms and so found it difficult to identify L4's.

Males are a lot easier to identify due to their arrow shaped tails, but L4's are difficult since you often look for the white spot based on their size.

What helped me was using their eggs as a scale:

The length of the egg: similar to the width of the males

The width of the egg: similar to the width of L4's.
