Nityananda, I think that typical iron cores saturate at about 2000G, or 0.2T, so 90% of the field has to be created by the current. The highest strength magnets are about 4T, but they use exotic alloys. I really think you will have a major cooling problem with your coil - but you will be all right if you only want to sustain the field for say fractions of a second. Best wishes with your research!
