Is it possible to make a 4 Tesla or 5 Tesla magnet at 5 mm air gap. Air cooled.

In my view, to reach 5 T you need a superconducting coil. You might get 2 T with a water cooled coil, but check the literature to be sure.

Sir, I have designed a 2 T magnet at a gap of 5mm. Iron core and 3 amp current.
Now I have copper wire capable of flowing 20 amps .
I don't know the saturation magnetism of iron.
Can I go beyond 2T by applying 20 amp?
Regarding Superconducting magnet, I am sorry that mine is a poor lab and can't have that much money.

Nityananda, I think that typical iron cores saturate at about 2000G, or 0.2T, so 90% of the field has to be created by the current. The highest strength magnets are about 4T, but they use exotic alloys. I really think you will have a major cooling problem with your coil - but you will be all right if you only want to sustain the field for say fractions of a second. Best wishes with your research!
