I am modelled a 3-point bending test of a composite using ABAQUS. I use conventional shell elements and composite lay-up.
Regarding the indenter, I wonder the best way to model it and apply the boundary condition? Should I use a rigid body constraint or a reference pint is enough? Or maybe use a displacement on the elements of the plate without using an indenter?
I want to analyse three dimensional, but I am only concerned with the composite failure.

An analytical rigid surface [1] associated with a rigid node could help you in modeling the indenter as a rigid body which has an indentation speed = V_Node_ref. (No BCs- This is a rigid body motion).

A rigid constraint between (the analytical rigid surface = indenter) and the reference node should be defined. For example, within an explicit dynamic step in Abaqus for analyzing a three-point bending test, the reference node will describe the indenter motion by assigning an indentation speed (a constant velocity = V_Node_ref only for the reference node) and it will record simultaneously the reaction force F_Node_ref.
I have a question, Why do you want to combine two tests (a three-point bending test and an indentation test)?
