There are critical diameters related to different properties (for example magnetic property). If the size of nanoparticles decrease to less than these critical diameters their related properties will change.
Nanotech is study of matter in small scale (1-100 nm). In that range particles follow the quantum mechanism and above this range its follow conventional physics.
Crystal growth- Crystals with different morphologies and sizes can be obtained by changing the growth conditions. The procedure of crystal growth can be conveniently used for mass production of crystals.

The main difference between these two classes is that lyotropic liquid crystals can change shape with the concentration and temperature, in contrast to thermotropic molecules for which the nature of the phases depends only on temperature
