In the normal process of learning, teaching or doing research, the Postdocs status is a stage of variable importance and usefulness, can this be discussed to,help younger generations of researchers and teachers? Thank you for focussing on your experience.
I think the post-doc experience is very worthwhile and whenever possible should be embraced as it gives the new PhD a taste of the reality of the academic environment. The latter many times is quite different (e.g., "not my idea syndrome") from what it looks like on the outside. This exposure will help to prepare the new PhD for the real world of working and teaching in an academic environment.

The Phd title is very marketable. Phd is the highest title in vertical professional development that demonstrates expertise. To increase flexibility and relevance in the labor market substantiate the Phd title horizontally with interrelated multidisciplinary knowledge and skills. Connect your Phd title to different industries through horizontal learning. Phd broaden your network in labor market. Network with novices and experts in various discipline. I will be glad to be one of your network.
As a postdoc in the beginning of this important stage in developing my skills to become an independent researcher, i will say it is a great experiences specially if you work with someone who will give you space to think and work independently of direct orders. I will also say it is the stage when you will meet new people and start thinking of possible future collaboration and how to expand your research interest.
My experience was somewhat different. I was a civil service employee that worked for a government agency. Therefore, I stayed with my employer another 6 years until I could draw full retirement. I also prepared to enter academia full time. I published as often as I could. I also taught as an adjunct. Now that I am a tenured full professor, I have observed this on hiring committees. Get some teaching experience. As much as possible. The lack of teaching experience is one reason that applications go into the pass file. Publish. It really is publish or perish, If you do not have at least some refereed articles out there you are not competitive with those that do. Be mobile. You have to be willing to go where the job is. Ask what are tenure policies like at any school that you interview at. If you don't make tenure, you will not get to stay.
It is very important stage to make you an independent researcher, particularly, where you can create your own ideas of research and work in a multidisciplinary projects.
