We have a contradiction between the recommendations and some books.
If no one answers, then we can make a preliminary conclusion that this drug is rarely used in clinical practice ...
Xipamide indications: ONLY!
For treatment of hypertension, either alone or as an adjunct to treatment with anti-hypertensive drugs.
Hi Sergey,, very interesting question. Xipamide is a diuretic which is least studied in heart failure patient despite having potential to be effective in this condition. It's pharmaceutical property is similar to loop diuretics rather than thiazide diuretics. It is potent and efficacious like loop diuretics. Few few small studies are available in early 80's with this drugs in heart failure with good results. There are some suggestions that this drugs also may be useful in hypertension, renal and hepatic oedema. Because of paucity of data with this drug probably there is no recommendation with this drug in heart failure. Some well designed study is needed with this molecule to get additional information this may be useful.. Thanks

Future RCT needed to confirm effects xipamide in patients with HF.
Hi Sergey, continuing the discussion, Xipamide has 24hrs diuretic efficacy like loop diuretic with mode of onset of action and duration like thiazide making it a useful drugs in management of hypertension also. It has the advantage that it does not produce rebound phenomenon like loop diuretics and cause significant natrieuresis like loop diuretics in patients of marked renal failure.. Thanks
