I wonder about your experience with ethical commissions in your country.
My experience is, that meant for natural science experiments rules are applied to social science often in an unacceptable way. Often you will not even find a commission member with a background in social science. Typically instruments and detailed research procedures have to be outlined and presented, which are in fact only subject of the first phases of the project. Commission just stop short of asking you what the results will before before you even start your project. Finally informing respondents prior to data collection can jeopardize and make impossible specific methods (e.g. participant observation; natural experiments). I am happy to learn about YOUR experience with such commissions and what the rules and practice in your country/context are. Might deserve an article in the end ....
