I seek a relationship between soil Field Capacity (FC) and Lower Plastic Limit (LPL) or any other physical characteristics of a soil which can help evaluate soil workability. Would you use Field Capacity as a direct proxy for soil workability when no further information (e.g. particle size distribution) is available?
@ Brian, actually the soil workability is measured by pressing, remoulding and rolling soil by hand. The consistency state of the soil was estimated from a score of 1 (dry, hard) to 6 (liquid). The soils were workable at consistency score < 3 where no marked plastic deformation occurred when the soil was pressed between the fingers.
J. C. Tarafdar Thank you for your answer. I am familiar with th procedure. Howeber, we need some sort of simple rule based on soil moisture and/or texture which can be implemented in a crop model. There are some formula to relate LPC to workability so I could use a relationship between LPC and FC.

I suggest you to search articles about the prediction of field working days based on soil moisture. Good researches can be found. As a research line related to Agricultural Machinery, most of papers deal also with soil mechanics.
