I received an invitation to publish a book chapter in IntechOpen. I have read the book project and it seems interesting. However, I didn't know the publisher and I wonder about their credibility. I have checked on the internet and the comments are mixed and generally from 3+ years ago. I would like to know your opinion/experience with this publisher and if it's worth publishing a book chapter with them. Thanks.

Dear Jourdain Lokossou many thanks for sharing this interesting technical question with the RG community. If I were you, I would stay away from publishing a book chapter with this publisher which is most likely a predatory publisher. In general, I am convinced that it is not worth publishing a good paper as a book chapter. I have 40+ years of experience in chemical / scientific publishing, including two books and several book chapters. In the end I came to the conclusion that book chapters mean a lot of work and little or no citations! Thus my personal suggestion is to stay away from book chapters and always publish your valuable research results in international, peer-reviewed journals, preferably those issued by established publishers such as Elsevier, Springer or Wiley etc. Only this approach will ensure that your papers will be read worldwide and eventually cited.

Using an analogy to "The Lord of the Rings": The ages of monographs ended and the Age of Articles, began. ;)

Look at the open access publication fees at intech, and compare the citations (and thus the outreach) of existing chapters - If you would have asked me, I think that the investments in time and money are not properly linked to the scientific outcome… hope this helps, Dirk
After a lot of emails that they have sent me and verifying them, I felt that there is something fishy about this publishing house. I don’t have the evidence of this being in predatory journal list, but it doesn’t look okay. And dear researchers, your work is precious. I don’t think your work deserves to go somewhere where you are in doubts. Goodluck!
