I have a compound that does not dissolve when I try to dissolve it with DMSO to determine its cytotoxic effect on cell lines (DMSO is not as toxic as 1%, but 0.5% is recommended).
I'm thinking to dissolve the compound with Hexane.
would you recommend hexane as a solvent?

I would say no. Might dimethylformamide (DMF) work? You'll need to assess (MTT, or Calcein-AM uptake, etc) solvent effects using your cell line and assay conditions.
